And do it right. There's been some horrible adaptations made in recent years. The worst offenses being against Greek mythology.

Granted the tale of Hercules and Jason and the Argonauts have been done to death. Sure some of the Hercules efforts were laughable, but we need another
Hercules movie like we need another movie adaptation of Cleopatra. Lysistrata would be nice to see made into a movie, alas it already has been in recent
years. A version of the story was filmed in...

Just posted a review of this at the Blog earlier this week. Picked this $1 DVD up with a zombie flick called DEATH VALLEY: THE REVENGE OF BLOODY BILL. Not
bad, though all the action seems to take place in a wooded backlot. Which I suppose saves money as there's no other location shoots.

After a unplanned hiatus (RL does that to you sometimes) November saw the reviews return to Mise-en-scene Crypt Blog. First up this month is a movie- actually
a miniseries- about the first Roman emperor, Augustus.

Does Augustus take liberties with historical events? It sure does. Is it a tad sluggish? Yes. Is it half as good as similar historical mini-series
that...

Here's an unusual entry in the medium budget historical epic, otherwise known as the peplum or the sword-and-sandal genre. But what makes this movie
really noteworth is it's from director Terence Young (Dr. No, From Russia with Love). And the name!

Before Roger Moore rocketed to stardom in such television series as The Saint and The Persuaders!, long before he was James Bond, he

This forum is for discussion of all manner of historical epics, including sword-and-sandal movies, AKA peplums. While often similar to high
fantasy adventures and sword-and-sorcery the sword-and-sandal genre is, for the most part, entirely mundane. While gods and goddess may put in an appearance
there's seldom any 'magic' to be scene.
